Smith County Master Gardeners' Annual Fall Gardening Conference/Sale | Environment
Released by Smith County Master Gardeners:
Who: The Annual Fall Gardening Conference and Bulb Sale is sponsored by the Smith County Master Gardeners, a volunteer program of Texas AgriLife Extension Service.
What: This event includes an educational program along with an opportunity to purchase heirloom and unusual bulbs not normally found at local nurseries and retail stores.
The featured speaker is Dallas County Master Gardener Diana Harris. Ms. Harris, a Certified Landscape Professional, is well known in North Texas. While traveling through Asia, Europe and the United States, Diana has studied various cultures’ gardening environments and design techniques.
She is also a Specialist in Demanding Landscape Environments and will be a welcome informant due to our heavily forested and shady East Texas gardens. Ms. Harris will share her knowledge and experience on gardening in the shade.
As an addition to the Conference, SCMG Merlin Eck will present a slideshow providing information on the many varieties of bulbs offered at the following Bulb Sale. This year there will be several species of tulips, different varieties of grape hyacinths, as well as favorites such as Erlicheer, the miniature Tete-a-tete, Avalanche (Seventeen Sisters), Salome with the pink cup, and Amarcrinum, a nice cross between the amaryllis and the crinum with stiffer, neater, dark green foliage that stands up well.
The MGs will also be selling the much requested Bletilla, the prolific Chinese Ground Orchid that is an all-time favorite with its numerous fuschia pink flowers dangling from each stem and pleated foliage that lasts all summer.
The Smith County Master Gardeners will be available to assist the public and provide answers to gardening questions via a Help Desk.
